Went to the past two Rockies games. Wednesday afternoon and last night. The Rocks won on Wednesday 8-5 over the Dodgers in a see-saw game that has just about everything, including a game winning homer in the bottom of the 9th by Jason Giambi. I was sitting next to Ken Miller, who produces the TV broadcasts on Root Sports, and said, "Giambi's gonna crank one here." Sure enough, second pitch, L-A lefty Scott Elbert tried to sneak a fastball past the cagey veteran and BOOM...three run bomb to centerfield, touching off a wild celebration.
Last night, the Braves climbed out of a 5-0 hole to beat the Rocks 9-8 in 11-innings. Another game that had a little bit of everything. As for Giambi, he had a pinch hit opportunity with men on base but...struck out. One day a hero, the next game not so much. That's baseball.
While the Rockies are just 12-13 they've actually been a fun team to watch. But they are just .500 at home. A team that historically struggles on the road, they need to clean up at Coors Field and so far they haven't. But, as the saying goes, it's early. Oh, and the title of this post? Even when the game is brutal, I always get my monies worth since I get in free. Can't beat that can you?
