Fenway Flops
The Yankees trailed 9-0 today in the 6th inning. Then they reeled off 15 unanswered runs to record an improbable 15-9 win at Fenway Park.
Just 14 games in, the Red Sox are 4-10. Dating back to last September, the Bostons are 11-30. Plus, just a fortnight into his regime, manager Bobby Valentine is getting booed by the Fenway no-so-faithful.
I'll give you my assessment of the Red Sox, short and to the point. Their bullpen blows. It's an arson squad. When Alfredo Aceves is your closer you've got major problems. Those guys threw batting practice today. In this era of baseball if you don't have a bullpen you don't have a prayer.
The are major issues in Boston and the heat won't go away soon. Can you fire a manager that you just hired 14 games in? Can the Sox ownership say to themselves, "Valentine was a mistake. Let's cut our losses now." Or, do they say, "Hey, it's just 14 games in. We owe him a chance. He'll turn it around."
The Yankees ruined Boston's 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park. Today's humiliating loss is a sign...a sign that the next 100 years of Fenway will be like the previous 100. Lots of disappointment with a handful of shining moments.
It could be a long and dismal season in Beantown. I feel for them. Well, not really.

Kind of off topic, but I thought you and the guys at Turf Sports would get a kick out of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNGHNA4wdKE
