Defense let the Rockies down today, specifically the defense at third base. Yesterday, Chris Nelson's throwing error was the key play in the game as the Astros defeated Colorado 7-3. Nelson's error turned a 1-0 deficet into a 3-0 hole from which the Rockies couldn't climb out of.
Today, Jordan Pacheco's 8th inning throwing error led to 2 unearned runs which was the difference in the Astros 3-2 win.
Last year, third base was a disaster area for the Rockies. Ian Stewart was so horrendous that he was sent to the minors on a few occasions and didn't contribute anything good to the cause. He was sent to the Cubs who figured a change of scenery might help him out.
In the off-season the Rockies signed 38-year old third baseman Casey Blake who was released in spring training.
The Rockies don't have a proven major league third baseman and it has cost them 2 games already. If I were GM Dan O'Dowd I'd be on the phone trying to land a third baseman. Today.
