As I've mentioned a million times, my favorite website is www.baseball-reference.com. You can spend hours and hours on that site...and I have.
One of my favorite features on baseball-reference is called "Oracle of Baseball."
Basically, it connects players by linking them to the shortest possible list of teammates.
So today I linked Tug Thompson, who played for the 1882 Cincinnati Red Stockings with current Padres rookie and utility man Andy Parrino who played briefly last season with San Diego.
Here we go, according to baseball-reference.
Tug Thompson played with Chick Fulmer on the 1882 Red Stockings. Fulmer played with Arlie Latham on the 1880 Buffalo Bisons. Latham played with Rube Marquard on the 1909 New York Giants. Marquard played with Johnny Cooney on the 1923 Boston Braves. Cooney played with Warren Spahn on the 1942 Boston Braves. Spahn played with Tug McGraw (another Tug!) on the 1965 New York Mets. McGraw played with Julio Franco on the 1982 Philadelphia Phillies. Franco played with Heath Bell on the 1996 New York Mets. Bell played with Andy Parrino on the 2011 San Diego Padres.
There's the link from Tug Thompson to Andy Parrino.
Perhaps you find this as fascinating as me? Probably not.
