I've always been a fan of new Marlins Manager Ozzie Guillen. When he played for the White Sox I enjoyed watching him. I've always had an affinity for left-handed hitting shortstops.
As a manager I've been humored by his frequent politically incorrect comments and his brutal honesty.
While I will still claim to being a fan of Ozzie, I have to really condemn him for his recent comment in which he said, "I love Fidel Castro." Not only is that an ignorant remark considering Castro was a brutal dictator and scruffy commie bastard who killed untold number of innocent Cubans, it is also quite stupid to say when you are managing a team in Miami. I can't back Ozzie on this one.
There are groups threatening to boycott the Marlins unless Guillen is fired. While I can see that people are upset I will give Guillen some credit. He actually apologized for his comment and I don't remember Ozzie apologizing for anything.
If his apology is sincere and he truly understands how hurtful his comments were, then I think he should be forgiven. Something good hopefully can come out of this. Right now though Ozzie is in hot water and his mouth got him there again. It may cost him is job and if it did I can't really fault Miami for letting him go. Again, lets see how his apology plays out.
