Baseball Being Stupid Again
Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez has been punished by Baseball's Senior VP Joe Garagiola Junior (how did he get that cushy job?) for a tweet that the pencil pusher deemed inflammatory.
After the Indians and Royals had a couple of bench clearing incidents (I won't call it a brawl because...it wasn't. Just a bunch of guys trying to look tough while trying not to get into an actual brawl) Perez tweeted, "Huge team win tonight; time for a sweep to tell the Royals it's not 'Our Time', it's (hash)TribeTime. P.S. You hit us, we hit you. Period."
I guess Garagiola taught Perez a lesson. The fine was for $750 which is like fining a guy who makes $12 an hour a 35-cents.
But why fine a guy for a tweet? Stupid or not, who really cares what Chris Perez says? What's the point of a fine?
Perez says it won't change the way he tweets. Instead of saying that, I'd like to see Perez say, "My right to free speech has been infringed upon. I plan on suing Major League Baseball to get my $750 back plus millions for pain, suffering, humilation and for making me play for the Indians."
