The Mariners and Athletics split two games this week in Japan. Excuse me if I'm not all that excited about it.
I'm all for playing exhibition games in Japan which Major League baseball has done on many occasions. I'm not for playing regular season games there, just as I'm not interested in the NFL playing games in London.
Regular season games should be played in the United States...or Canada if you are the Blue Jays or Expos. Check that, if you are the Blue Jays. (Yes, I still miss the Expos).
Anyway, the M's and A's split a pair of games in Tokyo. These games will prove to be important in the long run as these two teams figure to be fighting for 3rd place while eating the dust of the Angels and Rangers.
To me, owners that allow their teams to go to Japan during spring training to play a couple of "real" games are selling out their players. The lengthy trip to a foreign country breaks the routine of spring training and getting ready for the season. It's a handicap to start the season in Japan in my humble, and correct, opinion.
