High School Flashbacks

Today is March 1st.
Every March 1st since 1980, I am taken back to the late 70's when high school baseball tryouts would take place.
The first few days were spent running. And running. And more running. The reason Coach Sachs and Coach Steen ran us ragged was to thin the heard. They didn't like cutting players. I don't know any coach that enjoys that task. But they ran us like crazy and the kids who didn't want it bad enough would just quit.
One year, I remember the third or fourth sprint on the very first day, one kid kept running...and never came back. He was never heard from again.
I always looked forward to March 1st in high school and now I look forward to it for a couple of reasons. First of all, it means February, the worst month, is over and done with. Secondly, it brings me nice memories to when I was a young high school baseball player. Long live the Spring Valley Tigers.
So how did I celebrate March 1st today? Well, I worked out and then went to the batting cages to get ready for Old Guy's Baseball season. Some things never change.
