A.J. Burnett made my morning sportscasts the past two days.
On Wednesday, I talked about how he made a trade with fellow Pirates pitcher Daniel McCutcheon to get his favored #34. Instead of just giving McCutcheon money or a case of beer to get the number, Burnett started a college fund for McCutcheon's young daughter. A very nice and unique gesture.
Burnett though made my sportscast today for something bad. On Wednesday he was injured when he fouled a bunt off his face.
He went to Pittsburgh for treatment and he will need surgery to repair a broken orbital bone.
Tough break for Burnett. After the past two very difficult and disappointing seasons with the Yankees, Burnett was looking for a fresh start with the Bucs. Too bad and hopefully he recovers soon.
Two questions. He was injured in Bradenton, Florida, the long-time spring home of the Pirates. So why did he have to go to Pittsburgh to have his injury taken care of? Don't they have eye doctors in Florida?
