Major League Baseball has taken over the daily operations of the Dodgers. Ommissioner Bud Selig saying it is needed due to the messy divorce of the McCourts, Frank and trampy Jaime.
The team had to borrow money from Fox TV to help with payroll and is having financial issues. It's like a bad sit-com at Dodger Stadium.
The last time Major League Baseball operated a team it was the Montreal Expos. How did that work out? Not good for Montreal although the move to Washington has been beneficial to the franchise with a new ballpark, stable ownership in Ted Lerner a guy who seems to have a clue and wants to win. Don't be surprised if the Nats are really good in a couple of years with Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper leading the way.
Anyway, with MLB stepping into the Dodgers business, you have to wonder, when they will do the same with the Mets who are also a mess and are having massive financial difficulties.
The difference could be this. Bud Selig is close friends with Fred Wilpon, the owner of the Mets. Buddy boy is not close friends with Frank McCourt.
I don't think it will be a distraction for the Dodgers though. Don Mattingly will keep them focused and really, the players don't give a crap who the owner is so long they get paid.
