Finally, after a miserable winter, and all winters are miserable, baseball returns to Coors Field today as the Rockies host the Diamondbacks.
The weather will be beautiful and Coors Field, one of the nicest parks in the game, will be shining with 2.5 million dollars in improvements.
This will be my 13th consecutive Rockies home opener although my most memorable opening game for the Rockies came in 1993 at Shea Stadium. It was the first game in Rockies history and I went simply to witness baseball history. Dwight Gooden and the Mets shut out the Rockies that day 3-0 so it wasn't a happy first game for Colorado.
I've always felt that Major League Baseball did a disservice to Rockies fans in 93. They should have played the first game in franchise history in front of the home fans. There is no way that game should have been played in New York. But, I'm glad they did play there because I got to see it.
