Carlos Zambrano, despite getting roughed up in the 6th inning last night, picked up the win in the Cubs 9-5 victory over the Astros in Houston.
Zambrano is 2-0 and has won 10 consecutive decisions dating back to last season.
We all know how volitile Z can be. We've seen him scrap with teammates, jaw-jack with umpires and disagree with managers.
However, when he's right, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball.
In addition to the win last night, Zambrano homered. It's his 22nd career homer. Not bad at all. If the National League had a DH it wouldn't be a bad idea to have Big Z fill that role from time to time when he wasn't pitching. Still, he's a good option for Mike Quade off the bench in one of those long extra-inning games. The guy can swing the bat. And he can pitch. So long his mental state of mind isn't mental.
